Thank you, Rose! I've been trying to figure out what this reminds me of. Maybe I'll have a look at some Impressionist art. I wouldn't ever compare myself to such greatness, but it would be nice to discover that I was inspired by it. I have a big art book and was leafing through it yesterday. It was full of surprises! Do you know of Jackson Pollock, for example?
I have never heard of him but of course on your mention of him I Googled his images. Not at all the same feel your pastel gave. I prefer your choice and usage of colors a great deal more. I dug into the art of the Impressionists and also Abstract art and finally found the art I was looking for. Degas is the artist. It is because of the same usage of soft pastels to create the look and feeling of chiffon. Here's a link with images large enough to see what I mean. Go down five images to find several examples of his work.[link]
I love the Degas paintings! Thank you for showing them to me, Rose! I see the similarity too. It's interesting. I appreciate your efforts in finding this out!
When I work on stubborn fractals which just don't seem to want to turn into art, I sometimes feel like doing a "Pollock" and throwing some paint at them!
My dad and I were just discussing why it might be that modern music composers feel they have to sever all ties with great composers of the past (like Bach and Moart), while artists feel that it's okay to paint however they wish. I don't know the answer. I'm still rather new to art, too, and I simply don't know enough. It's a topic on which I'd love to hear people's opinions.
Thank you, Holly! I'm very happy that you like this! I wish I had a huge version of this fractal hanging over my sofa. Depression would be banished forever!
